Plant bulbs in fall

Spring color, planned ahead.

4 min read

Spring-flowering bulbs need a cold winter in the ground to bloom.

How

  • Plant in fall once soil has cooled, before the ground freezes
  • Plant pointy end up, about two to three times as deep as the bulb is tall
  • Plant in groups, not single rows
  • Water after planting
  • Let leaves die back naturally after flowering; they feed next year's bloom

Squirrels?

Daffodils are rarely eaten by squirrels or deer. Tulips and crocus often are.
